COMPOST

SBLB has pioneered rapid composting technology in Sri Lanka, and is able to offer customers a range of compost formulations that use waste tea as the primary substrate material. We are able to help our customers meet or comply with their environmental certifications such as The Rainforest Alliance, by utilizing this material that could otherwise become a potential environmental hazard thorough leaching, purification and runoff, all of which can affect the ecological balance and groundwater supply.

Compost can be made in as little as 14 days, when carefully manipulating both the chemical composition (i.e. the C:N ratio) as well as the physical processes of aeration, moisture and temperature management. When re-introduced into the soil, this compost enhances soil fertility and plant growth, and reduces fertilizer and water needs for most crops. Our composting process usually includes a two step process of microbial inoculation: first to aide in the decomposition of cellulose and lignin material and, secondly to promote plant growth and increase disease resistance characteristics. However, customers may opt not to have the second inoculation, if it is either unnecessary for their needs or if it contravenes their import regulations. Alternatively, the second inoculation can be tailored to the customer’s specific needs.

We are able to offer supplies that are consistent in their chemical and physical characteristics. Our products include:

basic-tea-compost

BASIC TEA COMPOST

Basic Tea Compost Made from absolute tea refuse and instant tea sludge, this product has undergone rapid composting without much loss of nitrogen. (See attached chemical analysis). The final product can include Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and fungi that are either an “all round” formulation or one that is crop specific. This is an entirely organic product.

enriched-tea-compost

ENRICHED TEA COMPOST

Enriched Tea Compost Also using absolute tea refuse and instant tea sludge as the base substrate, this compost is made from nitrogen rich green manure and cattle manure. The final product can include Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and fungi that are either an “all round” formulation or one that is crop specific. This is an entirely organic product.

super-enriched-compost

SUPER ENRICHED COMPOST

Super Enriched Compost Same as #2 above, with or without cattle manure, depending on the customer’s specifications. Additions could include seaweed extract, known for its wide range of micronutrients (60+ elements) and amino acids. (not for export market, but if needed can be sterilised) In all cases, organic or inorganic sources of NPK and micronutrients can be added to supplement the nutrient composition of the compost, depending on customer specifications.

Our Mission

to be one of the market leaders in manufacturing & exports of the organic growing medium.
